Racism vs. Prejudice

A society that denies individuals freedom of thought is fundamentally flawed. Thought can only be influenced, not changed. Regarding racism and prejudices, both have a fundamental difference: one is a thought, the other is an action.

Rights extend far beyond the views of the majority. The Bill of Rights wasn't written to protect the status quo, rather the freaks and weirdos.

Racism, while repulsive, must still be 'tolerated' in society. This doesn't mean it can't be reformed. Education and tolerance breed far greater ability for harmony than strict laws and regulations. An individual must always be allowed freedom of thought, whatever that thought is. Thinking isn't doing.

It's one thing to hate your neighbor for being black. It's quite another to assault him. Or deny him a job, etc. Prejudices can and should be eliminated in as best to the community's ability.

Laws and policies hurt the individual, but tolerance and acceptance hurt the mentality.
