Ideological Reality of Realistic Ideals

Could society become so disenchanted that true definition of reality is considered ideological?

Perhaps there exists a breakdown of true reality, devoid of bias, perception, prejudice, etc., but it's overlooked as being non-realistic. It could be anything, reasonably well-known or not, silly or serious, childish or mature, etc.

Maybe New Orleans really was ravaged because of all the godless sodomites.

Or not.
