Breakdown of Society in 3 Minutes

Look for principles in everything. It takes all the work out of arguing with that redneck uncle you might have that always wants to argue about a communist under every bed, a terrorist under every head cover, and a black man behind every crime.

The basis of society can be understood as an ongoing struggle for dominance of 3 main classes: Government, Enterprise, and People.

Each have their distinct strengths and weaknesses. Government can use law enforcement and propaganda but has to maintain basic credibility by projecting itself as needed. Enterprise can become just as lethally powerful as government, but must fight for credibility as long as it doesn't control the majority of its market. The People maintain the strongest numbers and most potential strength, but mobilization is near impossible and apathy inhibits change.

Sometimes, two entities can work together to undermine the third. For example, anti-trust laws serve the People, by enforcing more honest practices, and Government, by instilling a variable 'purpose' for more Government power.

It seems logical to put the will and need of the People first, but it's surprising how many beliefs and actions are promoted as being "for the people" while actually being anything but that.
