Why 'God' Works [sort of]

'God' is a coping/defense mechanism for people to feel like they're never alone in the world. To, essentially, never fully grow up. 'God' can be molded to anyone's personal beliefs, wishes, and desires. This can be done freely and without logical justification.

This premise is incredible. Coping with personal fears and securities, whether it's from 'dealing' with it or believing in a higher being that will do it for you, has phenomenally great potential. However, there's a distinct difference in believing in a god to become spiritually healthier and believing just to justify certain despicable types of behavior.

god exists because he is a definition. much like "blue" exists or "sadness" exists. "god" is a definition. it cannot be proven true or false, it merely is. the use of god, however, is of a more practical matter. everyone wants someone to look up to, someone to act as ones parent even when they are old. in this way, god is comforting. use of god as a means of justification is similar to how a child will justify his action by saying that a parent does it. its infantile. no one can comprehend something which is by definition incomprehensible and awesome. they just dont want to put the blame on themselves because they feel that they are doing something wrong. if they did not feel that they were doing anything wrong, why would they feel the need to tell anyone that "god" said it was alright? why isnt the act just "right" to begin with?

I can respect that. I do feel however that 'good' is strictly limited to each individual's interpretation. One always feels that their chosen actions are 'right,' while the discarded ones are 'wrong' or less 'right.'
